Weather Forecast Widget

What is the Weather Forecast Widget?

The weather forecast widget is a widget for displaying the current weather in any place in the world. The locations are being retrieved from a 3rd party API (WorldWeatherOnline.com) and can display the current temperature, weather conditions, humidity and visibility.
The widget can also display a weather forecast of up to 6 days ahead.
This widget will also work offline, but after 3 hours with no internet connectivity it will display “n/a” instead of the current weather, in order not to display a wrong weather (what it had 3 hours ago). Once the media player regains internet connectivity, the widget will get updated and will start displaying the updated weather.

How do I set it up?

Setting up the weather widget to show the current weather is pretty much straight forward: you just drag and drop the widget from the widget arsenal (in the left pane) to the canvas in the middle, resize and relocate the widget and alter the properties of it in the right pane.

The properties to be handled are:

  • Location: This is the location of the weather you’d like to display.
  • Date: This is the date to be displayed. “Current” for now, “Today” will show you a forecast of the whole day, “Tomorrow” and the rest of the options will show you the following days (up to 6 days ahead) as like a forecast should be.
  • Label: This is the title of the widget. The default is the name of the city or location you chose, but you can manually change it.
  • Unit: The unit of the temperature (Celsius or Fahrenheit).
  • Title Format: Here you can alter the font style of the title text.
  • Content: In this section you have 3 optional checkboxes to show extra information as conditions, humidity and visibility.
  • Language: This is the language to display the above content (the 3 optional extra information).
  • Content Format: Here you can alter the font style of the content section of the widget.

How to display the forecast?

Displaying the forecast in the weather widget is simple. But the trick is how to show the day. For example: you’d like to show a forecast of the today and for the next 3 days. Today is Sunday and tomorrow is Monday and so on. So above each of the 4 weather widgets you have to use for this task, you will need to drag a clock widget (see the screen shot below) and set it up to display the proper day in the week as following:

  • Format: Choose for the format “EEEE” (day in the week, like “Monday”) or “EEE” (short name for the day, like “Mon”).
  • Time Zone: Choose for the time zone. The default is the “Local Timezone” of the media player / screen.
  • Offset: Choose “none” for today, “+1 Day” for tomorrow, “+2 Days” for the day after tomorrow and so on.
  • Text: This is where you alter the style of the font of this widget.
