Streaming Widget

The Streaming widget is a tool in NoviSign that allows you to embed live video broadcasts directly into your digital signage content. It’s ideal for displaying real-time video streams such as events, news, or security footage. The streaming widget can now only accept M3U8 file streaming format (similar to the Ustream widget we have used previously).

M3U8 is a file extension for a UTF-8 encoded audio/video playlist file, commonly used for HTTP Live Streaming (HLS). To learn more about this format, please click here.

Please note the following:

• At the moment, all our player apps except the Windows player app support this new feature.

• We are also planning to add support for private secured streaming, which will allow streams that require authentication.

1. In your Studio account, in the Creatives tab, click “Create Creative”, in order to create a new composed creative or just enter one of your existing composed creatives in edit mode.
2. In the Creative Composer, looking at the left widget arsenal, you will see a the widget, appearing in the end. That is the new streaming widget. Just drag and drop it anywhere to the canvas and reshape the borders of the widget.
3. While the focus is still on the streaming widget, fill the URL of the M3U8 file in the “URL” property in the properties pane of the widget (in the left side of the screen). You can use (by copying and pasting the URL) one of the free M3U8 streams in this website. That’s all.
4. Save the creative. make sure it’s in a playlist which is assigned to one of your Android players and look at the display of that Android signage device.
