Playlists Management

Overview

In NoviSign’s Studio CMS, a playlist is a key component of your digital signage content. Think of it like a music playlist on the radio—just like songs play one after another, a playlist in NoviSign plays creative after creative, in a set sequence.

To display any content on your screen, you must assign at least one playlist to it (though you can assign more). Each playlist must include at least one creative—a creative is the individual piece of content (like a slide or message) that appears on your screen.

What is a Playlist?

A playlist is a collection of creatives that are played in a defined order. It helps you organize your content and control how it appears on your screens. You can also share playlists with other accounts, just like you can share creatives.

Content vs. Hardware

In your NoviSign Studio account:

  • Content includes: Creatives and Playlists

  • Hardware includes: Screens and Devices (physical or virtual)

The Playlist Tab

You can manage everything related to playlists in the Playlists tab of the Studio CMS. This is your central place to create, organize, and schedule the content that appears on your screens.

  • New Playlist: Click to create a new playlist.New playlist

  • Naming: Use clear, descriptive names to keep things organized.

  • Add Creatives: Insert one or more creatives into the playlist.Playlist-edit

  • Playlist Scheduling: Set start and end times for your playlist.

  • Recurring Schedules: Automate playback for daily or weekly routines.

  • Time-Sensitive Content: Schedule content to appear at specific times.

  • Looping: Choose between continuous looping or one-time playback.

  • Order and Sequence: Set the order in which creatives appear.

  • Grouping: Group related creatives to create a smooth flow.

  • Duration: Choose how long each creative is displayed.

  • Preview Playlist: See how your playlist looks before publishing it.

Note: Playlist scheduling overrides creative-level scheduling, since playlists are a higher-level structure in the playback hierarchy.

Best Practices

  • Stay Organized: Use clear names and group similar content.

  • Mix Content Types: Keep it engaging by combining promotional, informational, and entertaining content.

  • Keep It Fresh: Update playlists regularly to maintain relevance.

  • Test First: Always preview and test your playlist to ensure everything runs smoothly.
