What is Quick Link?

Quick Link is a new way of NoviSign to allow customers and partners to pair their media players (or smart displays) to NoviSign.

Until now the way to do so was to create your content (creatives and playlists), then create a screen in your online Studio CMS account. That screen was supposed to be a virtual entity to represent a real screen in the real world.

But that didn’t end there. You also had to go to the physical device, either your media player or your smart display (SoC), then install NoviSign digital signage player app (APK in Android, EXE in windows and other formats in other operating systems) and finally you had to pair it, so your Studio account will “know” that this particular physical device is the very same virtual screen you created in your Studio CMS account.

That was done either by typing the long screen key (which you got from the screen in your Studio account) which is a unique identifier. This is the way it was done in the long long past. The next way to do so was to login in to your user account from the player app itself on the physical media player (by typing your Studio username and password in the “User” and “Password” textbox controls) then click the magnifying glass icon which opened a dropdown list of all the available screens you have under that user account for you to choose one. That’s how pairing a device has been done so far.

Now, we have a new and easier way. Please notice that at the moment it works only on our Android player app (APK). In the future we will add this functionality to our other player apps for making life easier in other platforms as well. QuickLink is actually pairing a physical media player device to a screen in your Studio account either by scanning a QR code with your smartphone or by typing a 6 digit code (which is generated every 10 minutes) which appear on the screen of your media player in your Studio account for the pairing action.

How Does It Work?

This is a very common way to pair devices to some service. The player app installed on the physical device will display 2 options:

• A QR code.
• A random 6 digit number.

This is how it will look like:

1. Once the app starts, you will get this loading screen:
   
2. After a second or two, you will get this pairing screen:
   
   You’ll have to either scan the QR code with your smartphone or alternatively, open a browser on your smartphone (or laptop), then surf to the URL mentioned on that screen and type the 6 digit temporary code (which is valid for only 20 minutes).
3. Once you did it in your phone, you will see the following screen displayed until the moment when you complete the pairing process on your phone:
   

Steps to Pair Your Media Player

1. After installing the NoviSign’s APK, on the screen should appear 2 things: QR code to be scanned and a 6 digit pairing code with URL.
2. If you scan the QR with your smartphone, a URL will be opened on your smartphone for the pairing. Alternatively, you can surf to that URL (which is mentioned near the 6 digit code) and manually type there the 6 digit code.
3. Finally in that URL, login to your user through the user/password login controls.
   
4. Choose your account (in case your have more than one).
5. Then you’ll get a list of all the screens available in that account. Choose one of them and press “Continue”. This will do the pairing action by broadcasting this screen to your device.
   
6. You’re done.
